But if you want to avoid this problem in the future, you'll also want to figure out what caused it in the first place.

Keep reading to find out how to banish swollen, puffy eyes for good. We have both quick fixes and long-term solutions.

So, what causes under eye bags in the mornings?

We don't blink while we sleep, which contributes to the development of eye puffiness.

Stress or a lack of sleep can cause dark circles beneath the eyes.

Blinking is similar to walking in terms of eyelids. Some people acquire swelling in their lower limbs when they are sitting. This swelling goes away once they begin walking, and the muscles in the legs begin "milking" the trapped fluids (oedema), which are released back into circulation.

In the eyelids, a similar activity occurs. In people who are prone to this condition, the closed, non-blinking eyelids can potentially enlarge during sleep. As a result, you may have puffy, swollen eyelids in the morning.

About an hour after you open your eyes and start blinking, some of the swelling will go away.

But puffy eyes can sometimes also be a sign of a medical condition.

Thyroid eye illness, for example, can cause swelling of the tissue and muscles around the eyes. Bulging eyes can also indicate Graves' disease, a thyroid disorder.

Swollen eyes can also be caused by allergies to the eyes, such as hay fever.

And swollen eyelids can also be caused by other allergies, such as reactions to particular foods or chemicals.

What to do to get rid of under eye bags?

1. Limit your alcohol consumption and avoid drinking in the early hours of the morning. Replace your drink with a few sips of mineral water. Overdoing the booze can cause blood vessels and capillaries to weaken and widen, resulting in increased fluid retention beneath the eyes.

2. Gently remove eye makeup with a moist cotton pad or a reusable makeup wipe and avoid pushing or pressing the skin around the eyes since it is fine and delicate.

3. Beauty sleep is important and can have a big impact on your skin. Try sleeping on your back rather than on your stomach. This will aid drainage while also preventing friction. Use a silk pillowcase if you can. As basic as it may seem, try to get to bed by 10pm and aim to sleep for at least 7 to 8 hours.

4. Avoid fragranced laundry powder. To avoid sensitivity, use fragrance-free laundry detergent and wash pillowcases frequently because sebum, sweat, and dead skin cells collect on the fabric.

5. Drinking a big glass of water is the simplest way to aid swollen eyes. Water retention, which can contribute to puffiness, is less likely if you're adequately hydrated. Avoid dehydrating caffeinated and carbonated beverages in favour of pure water, which will also help flush out pollutants.

 6. Limit your salt and sugar intake - Too much salt and sugar in your diet can increase fluid retention, so keep an eye out for hidden salt and sugar in snacks, fast food, and processed foods. Get into the habit of reading labels so you know what to look out for.

7. Try facial cupping instead of Botox. Cupping stimulates blood flow, which encourages collagen production and results in firmer, brighter skin.

The amount of puffiness and fine lines reduced will vary depending on your age and skin condition, but you should anticipate to see a significant reduction in puffiness and fine wrinkles.
