Makeup Tips For Hot Summer Days

Beauty Hacks To Keep Your Face From Melting Off In The Heat And Humidity

Hi there!

ONE GIRLS OBSESSIONSMy name is Kiara Duhig from One Girls Obsessions. I am a makeup artist from Launceston, Tasmania and I own a small studio which specialises in Makeup Application, Makeup Training, Eyebrow Shaping, Lashes and Spray Tanning.

I am excited to share my best tips for every day makeup on a hot summer’s day with you.

We love this beautiful weather but we don't love our makeup running and going patchy!

Now before I go into detail, my biggest tip is to prevent product build up…

Less is more, especially in the heat.

Firstly, I recommend cleansing your skin before your makeup application and removing any excess oil or dirt which has built up.

Followed by prepping the skin with your moisturiser of choice – I try not to use anything too heavy of a day as I find it will make my skin become more “clogged” or it will make my makeup sit on top of my skin and be like a barrier so I keep my deep nourishing creams and oils for night use.

I will always use a sunscreen daily and I opt for a non-greasy product such as “La Roche-Possay Anthelios XL Ultra-Light Fluid Facial Sunscreen SPF50+“ and apply it sparingly.

Now that the skin is prepped I recommend to sheer out your foundation as opposed to applying bulk product. I use a damp makeup sponge and melt the foundation into my skin and build the coverage slowly.

If you do have any breakouts instead of continuing to layer foundation, I recommend using a concealer the same colour as your foundation and spot concealing as we are preventing product build up on the skin.

If you are concealing under the eyes, I find the best thing for myself and my clients is to stay away from any concealers that are thick.

I also stay away from using powder as much as I can - If you are wanting to bronze the skin or add some blush, I use a cream product and blend out with a damp sponge. If you are prone to having oily skin – take a small amount of powder and set through your T-Zone and eyelids (yes they get oily) very lightly.

You can look a million bucks without breaking the bank.

My tips for eyebrows and eyes… Always use waterproof mascara especially on your bottom lashes to prevent the product from transferring and giving you that awful “black” under eye look because we all want to look bright and awake!

I personally fill my eyebrows in with a little powder as I find this doesn’t transfer like a pencil or pomade – I do choose to set my brows in place with a brow soap or brow gel.

I also always carry a lip gloss on me which has a high SPF rating as our lips loves the sun and are prone to getting damaged/burnt.

My last tip is to carry your makeup sponge with you and if any excess oil appears or your foundation slips throughout the day – the left-over foundation on the sponge will take away the shine and add a small amount of coverage.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me! I love helping out with makeup tips and I also host lessons in my makeup studio - One Girls Obsessions in Launceston - which can be one on one or group lessons.

Please remember these are tips for every day makeup – I do things a little different for glam makeup in the heat. Check out my Instagram page or website for more makeup tips.
